Breakfast Destress

Woke up super early today, for church and for extra motivation, to try a new breakfast time nearby.

Not sure why it never occurred to me to try it out before, and I've been living here like what... 1 year plus??!

Anyways, so my sister and I walked in The Newsroom Cafe which had a really nice and friendly atmosphere.

The staff was super friendly as well...

Although it was a bit pricy and because we sat down already we paiseh to go out, we finally made up our minds, and I ordered...

Grandma's Mushrooms and an Ice Coffee...

IT WAS SOOO GOOD!!

Really healthy, and yummehhh!!

No regrets!

Definitely would visit a second time when got extra cash to spend...

The WTF feeling...

You know... the feeling... when you actually put in a lot of effort into something... and it turns out like shit...

And funnily the one you didn't spend much time on came out pretty good...

I mean...

Of Wins and Losses

The All Blacks won!!

Woohoooo! Although only by 1 point, a win is still a win... Congrats All Blacks, your 24-year wait is finally over to hold the World Cup victory again... :) But I must say tho, the Blues were really really playing very well yesterday! They really wanted it! I expected the New Zealand to trash France (no offence to the French) because of how they played against the Aussies! But France, you showed me that, if you really want it, you can get it! Good on you!

But still tho, I can't believe Piri didn't converted his first 2 kicks! He was amazing against the Aussies!! Oh wells... Shows what pressure does to a man I guess...

Anyway...

On another note...

WTF Man Utd?!!

Embarrassing humiliating and very sad over the results...

but as a friend said, "One loss does not deny a championship".
Amen to that!

" You have to recover. In the history of Manchester United, it is another day and we'll recover from this, there's no question about that."

Wallabies VS All Blacks

So sad... we lost...

We... as in the Aussies... haha... Somebody commented I've assimilated to the Aussie culture...

>.<

But I'm still very Malaysian in some aspects, home is always home, no matter how far you are from it, or how long you've been away.

Anywayyy, back on rugby... Kudos to the Kiwis, you guys definitely deserved to win!

Next week, ALL BLACKS VS FRANCE!!

Spring!!

Spring is here!! That means, pretty flowers, shorts season again!! nice day out to the beaches...

But it also means birds nesting season... Right after I took this picture, I got swiped by a minor bird! I swear Aussie birds are ferocious! And I'm not even exaggerating!!!! :S

It also means that, you may get nice sunny weather in the morning, and rain, storm and hail in the afternoon, and then the sun comes up again in the evening!

Which means that, it's the flu season as well! :(

So far 5 people have told me to drink whiskey to sooth my cough! When I first heard, I thought my friend was pulling my leg! Turns out no!! Apparently this remedy is known worldwide! Africa, France, Germany, Australia...

HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS BEFORE?!!

*runs to the nearest bottle shop to buy a bottle of whiskey*

>.<

World Cup 2010 is Officially Hereeee!!!

I thought the opening ceremony was really good... I love watching formations... And I thought they did a good job!

First game wasn't too bad... First half was pretty slow and uneventful... Things started to pick up after Tshabalala scored the first goal for South Africa... I heart their vicotory dance! Hopefully there'll be more to come!!

Disappointed that Mexico then made the scores 1-1... Gahh... Would've loved to see South Africa win the opening match...

Oh wells, it was an interesting 2nd half anyways...

World Cup Fever has finally stuck me!! :D

Kaamatan/Gawai Dinner on the 31/06/2010

Who says Gawai only happens in Sarawak?? Aussie also can k... :P

So after months and months of anticipation, *cough*ReubenStephSherwynnaBryanshouldknow*cough*, the big day finally arrived. Started of with journeying all the way to Inala (1 hour bus ride from where I live) to go get the ingredients for food with Bryan and Uyen on the Saturday morning before the dinner.

On Monday morning (the big day), before uni started, I got up to marinade the pork. So I marinade it with lemongrass, ginger, garlic, soya sauce and pepper... I was pretty happy with the smell. It smelt perfect like home... :)

After uni that day, Bryan came over and we started marinading the chicken for the pansuh and prepared the belacan paste. Because we didn't have pestle and mortar, we had to improvise with a Smirnoff bottle filled with water and a chopping board...

Aren't we smart? Haha!! I actually had to pound my pork marinade as well, I felt so bad, 'cause I didn't wanna wake my housemates up. But apparently I didn't make a sound.... LOL! When Bryan was pounding the belacan paste, if you close your eyes, you could just imagine that you're being transported back home... plus the smell really enhanced the experience as well!!

By the way, I REALLY did throw the garlic!! Just to set the record straight!

I have to say that the ayam pansuh (chicken) was really good, considering the fact that we couldn't find turmeric leaves, or tapioca leaves, or bamboo. Instead of cooking it in bamboo as it suppose to be, we improvised again with aluminum foil.

Maybe more salt should have been added, but the lemongrass, garlic and ginger was really strong... So it was good. :D

Oooh, did I mentioned we managed to find kangkung? Yup, you guessed it! That's belacan kankung there, cooked to perfection by our chef, Bryan Wee! It was the most popular among our friends, well done!! :D

That's the pork you see cooking there! We tried to make babi bakar, but obviously this is the closest thing you can get to babi bakar without a fire. For a first try, it was really very good. I was surprised I managed to pull it off!

End of product! Of course only the best part of the pork was used... the BELLY!!! :)

Because it was also Kaamatan, it should only be right to have some Sabahan dish... This is guo tie, made by Steph... She says it's appropriate 'cause she's Sino Kadazan... ookayyy Stephhh... Haha! It was sooo good tho!

Dinner set on the table, babi bakar, belacan kangkung, ayam pansuh in aluminum foil, ulam (cucumber and cincalok sauce) and guo tie which was being warmed up at the moment this photo was taken...

And of course, what's a celebration without people eyy? I would say we did a good job considering there were no left overs... Yummmmy!!

Happy Gawai everyone!!

Gawai!!

SLAMAT ARI GAWAI TO EVERYONE WHO CELEBRATES!!!

As what a friend said, "mabuk jangan... minum sampei mabuk boleh!"... :)

Have a good festive season 2010 peopleeee!!!

Oooohhhhhhhaaaaa!!!

Black out....

Haha!!

Just something stupid that happened that I so have to share....

There was a black out just now.. and I felt like updating my Facebook status... since my laptop cannot be switched on due to no power, I decided to use my iPod... typed in "what a great time to get a blackout" - I was being sarcastic by the way - then the page cannot load... then I remembered, of course! We didn't have Internet, 'coz the modem wasn't working, 'coz there was no electricity... *hits head on the wall*

And then... my housemates and I wanted to light candles for light... halfway lighting, the fire burnt too fast and Hui Quan dropped the burning paper thingy on the floor... and then there were so much smoke after we stepped on the burning thing.. and guess what?

Yup, the bloody fire alarm went off... Hui Quan who lived with me in Kelvin Grove student apartments before and I panicked and started trying to get the alarm to stop ringing... At Kelvin Grove, the alarm is hooked to the fire departments, so when it rings, if you don't stop it, the fire engines will come and there's a AUD900 fine if it's a false alarm... Wahhhh... we went crazy... Esther tried to press the reset button or something, but we all were too short to reach the bloody alarm.. and so my damp cloth wouldn't do anything to help to.. so I started waving the cloth at the alarm thing, to get the smoke away.... I probably looked like an idiot 'coz Esther laughed... and then the alarm stopped...

The two of us were so shaken... Hui Quan and I, I mean... my hands were shaking from the drama.... and Esther kept laughing like anything... Idiot... lols...

But I must admit.. it was kinda funny... haha... and thank God the lights came back on!! :)

SUPAFEST 2010

Hey heyyy!!

As some of you know, I've been crazy about last weekend... trying to find people to go with the to the Supafest! What is it, you ask?? *gasp* YOUDUNNO??!! Haha.. chill, yea... not many people knew about Supafest... I found out on Facebook, through a friend in Sydney.

So..... get ready for this... it was a music festival featuring Akon, Kelly Rowland, Pitbull, Jay Sean, Sean Paul and Eve!!! YES THEY WERE IN AUSTRALIA!!! IN BRISBANE!!! :D

I bought tickets on Wednesday... The worst thing was, it didn't feel like I spent AUD130! I didn't even feel the guilt!! Usually wanna spend like AUD20 already my heart like wanna break into a zillion pieces... Anyway, I held onto my tickets like it was gold... technically it was, haha.. for me.. freaking AUD13o mann..

My ticketttt to my first ever major concert!!!

Got up early to go to the concert... Was in the city at like 11am... it was supposed to start at 1, so my friends and I decided to go there at 12... didn't happen due to unforeseen circumstances... we got there at 1.30pm, and it gates weren't even open yet!! Which was good for me, 'coz I prolly would've cried if I missed any of the acts.

LOOK AT THE LINE!!!

And that wasn't even near the front!! That was the middle, and only ONE SIDE OF THE ENTRANCE!! The gates didn't open until 2.30pm, but I didn't feel like the wait was long... Prolly just from being excited to be so near!

The Supafest 2010 poster

Once we finally got through the alcohol and weapons check, and the ticket check, we still had like heaps of waiting to do... The local DJs played but only a small group of people were partying out at their small stage... Most people were just hanging around, waiting, walking here and there...

It was at 3.55 when they FINALLY started doing acts on the main stage!!

This was the first act... Local... no idea who they were... Their dance moves were really good tho... and, yeaa... the crowd enjoyed it... It reminds me of Backstreet Boys, the hip hop version... HAHA!

After that.. suddenly this Lady Gaga look alike person came out... Chris Sobello... I thought it was a guy at first, from the name, but nope... turns out to be this Australian version of Gaga.

And then... FINALLYYYY!!! Eve came on! She was really good... Even though her voice was wearing out, she still gave a great performance... Kinda pity her, 'coz the crowd didn't really know her songs, so it was hard to sing along with her... and her DJ tried getting us to be louder...

After she went off stage... The DJ mentioned that Jay Sean was next... THE CROWD WENT CRAZY!!! We were screaming our lungs out... but no Jay Sean... 5 minutes later... the DJ went, scream if you wanna see Jay Sean!!! It went on for a while, like maybe 15-20 minutes before Jay Sean himself actually came out...

And we went even crazier!! What I think was that, they were waiting for the sun to go down, to get it a little darker so that they could have the cool lightings...

He brought Britain's no. 1 beat boxer and damnnn!! The guy was seriously good!! He gave us a preview of Pitbull, Sean Paul and Akon... He blew our minds!!

But obviously Jay Sean was the hit... Everyone was singing along with him... and who could resist his sexy British accent... awwww!!!

Jay Sean, up close... I think he was singing "Do you remember" in this one... I couldn't get a close shot of him, so I took the video shot.. turnes out pretty good eyy..
:)

Next up was....

SEAN PAULLL!!!

He was good... But you know his songs, like, even if we knew the lyrics, you just can't seem to be able to sing along or rap along with him. LOL! So... the crowd was like... lalalalalala... I got the right temperature... lalalalala...

Well, at least, I was doing that... lol... I know... I'm sad... but I can't do Sean Paul... XD

Guess who came on next?? Everyone went WILD just knowing he was gonna come out!!

IT WAS PITBULL!!!!

Now, Pitbull... HE WAS SO AWESOME!! His showmanship... wowww... haha... all I can say... I was quite shock with the vulgarities... I must admit, haha... like he just shouted, "LET HAVE A MOTHERF*CKING GOOD TIME!!!!". And he did that repeatly during his show....

But still... he was really good! I went wild in this one... HAHA!

Next up was Kelly Rowland...

Her voice was amazing... she started off singing "Dilema", the one with Nelly...

I WAS LIKE... AWWWW!!! I LOVE THIS SONGGG!!! Reminded of Form 1/2 when the song just came out...

She was like... No matter what I dooo.... *stares at the crowd* All I think about is youuuu....

And she kept making us sing along with her... Too bad she didn't really sang the whole song... I was disapointed in that sense. She gave us a preview of her new single, and also sang some of Destiny's Child's songs, like Survivor among others...

But the finale... boyyy, the finale...

Akon was in the building... :D

He had some movie clips going on before appearing on stage, some annoying girls behind me were getting irritated 'coz it was so long... I was so close to turning around, and telling them to shut the F up 'coz not everyone does not want to watch the movie... but of course I didnt...

I liked his concept, so he had this movie clip going on, leading to whatever song he was gonna sing... for example, he had this rauchy scene with a super hot lady, and then she kinda like was working for some gangsters, and after tying him on the bed, she said to him, "you should've given us the diamonds". And he went, "Girl, you're so dangerous". I'm sure you can guess what he sang after that... ;)

Then there was this one song, "I wanna f*ck you". Ok... I had NO IDEA it was "f*ck you", instead of "love you" k... screw Malaysian censorship lar... Don't give us the original lyrics one... I was like, why is everyone screaming "I WANNA F*CK YOU!! YOU ALREADY KNOW!!".

HAHA! Mind blowing...

When the song ended, Akon said, "Since you already know I wanna f*ck you, so you don't mind me smack that right?"

AHHHHHH!!!! And you know what came after that!! :D

HE WAS REALLY REALLY AWESOME!! And the best thing was he interacted with the crowd so much... That's why we loved him so much... AND HE ACTUALLY CAME DOWN FROM THE STAGE TO BE WITH US!!

That's him, IN THE CROWD!!!

AND I WAS LIKE FEW INCHES AWAY FROM HIM!!

I know from this picture it doesn't seem so... but he came right where I was standing after that... My friend who was in front of me managed to touch him!! I didn't! :(

So near yet so far...

BUT HELL!! IT WAS SO WORTH MY 130 BUCKS!!

Epic Day with Epic People with Epic Food

Sorry... This post is kinda outdated a bit... I took a couple of days to put the pictures into my computer... and then sorting it and deciding which pictures I wanna put in my blog... To make it up, it's a pretty long post... Anywayyy, enough of the explaining and more on the blogging... :)

So, this was on Sunday (11th of April, 2010)... Bryan has been telling about this super yum breakfast place at Newfarm, and so we've been planning to have breakfast there for quite sometime now, just that we hadn't had the time to actually go.

The night before, Mr Bryan Wee made a brilliant plan to go for 8a.m. mass and then head down to Newfarm to have breakfast, and then not having to worry to rush to church after that. So... I thought, yup, that sounds like a brilliant plan!

I slept at 1.30am that night, and had to dragggg my body out of bed at 7am, so that I could catch the 7.30 bus with Bryan to the city. You have no idea how hard it was to wake up that morning, but since I didn't have credit on my handphone, I had no choice!

I was jaywalking all the way from my house to the bus stop, and just at the intersection to the bus stop, I SAW MY BUS!! But there were cars so I couldn't just jaywalk across the street! As soon as the last car pass the traffic light, heck cares if it was still red, I dashed across the road and made it just in time! And guess what? He wasn't in the bus... I didn't give it much thought, 'coz I thought I might have caught an earlier bus than supposed to...

Reached church, still no show... After mass still no show... Then I got a text... He woke up late... LOL... So I waited in the city for Bryan and Uyen to arrive so that we can tackle the yummy breakfast!

Got a bus, reached Newfarm, walked a bit to the Breakfast place... It was at a French, cafe called Au Cirque... THE QUEUE WAS SO LONG!!! sorry no pics, 'coz it didn't occur to me to take photos then.. haha... Anyway, the wait was so worth it!!

Happy faces when we finally got a table!

Even more happy faces when our food arrived. This was my Chowdown... AUD16 but oh so totally worth it! Lasted me all the way to dinner! It has few slices of bacon, 2 poached eggs, 1 potato cake, stir-fry mushrooms, 2 sausages, 2 slices of toast, and veggies... I told you it was yum!

After breakfast we decided to walk around Newfarm, I haven't been here eventhough I've lived in Brisbane for about 2 and half years now? Haha... Sad... I know... IT WAS SOOO PRETTY!!

Shops at Newfarm Village I think...

And then... Bryan went C.R.A.Z.Y at Coles... After such a heavy breakfast, he was already deciding what to cook for dinner!! Uyen and I were like... -.-" Full Bryan... we're still full....

Anyway, Bryan went on about having roast potatoes... My reaction to that was, "Only roast potatoes? What are you going to eat with that??". And we spent about maybe 30 minutes trying to decide what to go with roast potatoes... Bryan wanted grilled fish... I thought the fish he wanted was gonna be too fishy... Then I said, why not meat? It'll taste better with potatoes... So he spent walking from the beef section, to the lamb section, to the ham section, back to beef, etc. Finally the chef decided on marinated beef roast!

Our tired faces after spending hours at Coles with Bryan... Oh ya! I forgot to mention that I wasn't supposed to have dinner with them, I wanted to go back to do some uni work. Somehow they managed to convince me to bring my uni stuff over to Uyen's and then we could have scones for high tea, and then dinner... Oops, I forgot to mention that, before the whole roast fiasco, Bryan found a recipe for scones, and decided to bake scones... Yup, like 1 second after discovering the recipe, he went straight to the baking aisle and started grabbing ingredients.

Bryan's happy face mixing the dough kampung style... He came out of the kitchen, went to the balcony door, and plonk down, and starting mixing it with his hands... I just had to get a picture!!

A stranger came to visit while the scones were baking... yah, I know... I was distracted while doing work... haha...

Tadahhh!! End produce of Chef Bryan: sweeten soya milk, with a scone and jam... It smelt good, it looked good, and most importantly... it tasted good!! :) WELL DONE BRYAN!

Then he went on preparing his roast... Cutting his veggies of potatoes, zucchinis, carrots and onions. Sprinkling on his newly bought herbs of rosemary, thyme, black pepper and sea salt...

I forgot to take a picture while they were all roasting together.... so bare with me...

The roast veges, sitting in the warm oven while waiting to the roast to rest...

You have to admit that it looks pretty good ey? Make you more jealous... IT WAS GOOD!!! Tender and flavourful... just about the perfect roast I would say...

By the end of the day, I forgot that I hadn't enough sleep, that it was a bloody hot day, that I had an assignment due on Tuesday, that the holidays was ending and that I had to go back to uni the next day....

So... I'll have to shout out...
THANK YOU BRYAN AND UYEN FOR A WONDERFUL DAY OUT AND FOR CONVINCING ME TO STAY FOR DINNER!!!

HAPPY EASTER!!!

Happy Blessed Easter Everyoneee!!! :)

I had fun this Holy Week actually... Worked for 5 hours and then ponteng half a lecture to go to Holy Thursday mass, fasted until Good Friday service and then buka puasa at a BBQ near the Story Bridge which had amazing views of the city!, shopped and found my 2 fave shoes-of-the-moment-and-prolly-the-year and took the citycat to Easter Vigil on Saturday, and finished the day with pizzas to Man Utd vs Chelsea (which was disappointing but whatever, it's Easter :))... and Sunday? As God rested on the 7th day, so did I... to an extend.. Haha!

So... Last minute plan that we wanted to have Easter lunch, but what we forgot was that, all the supermarkets were closed on Easter Sunday... damn those angmohs! But luckily Bryan's Vietnamese friend, Uyen, found out that the shops in Darra (a Vietnamese suburb) were open... So Bryan and I decided to head down to Darra to see what we can get.

We arrived at Darra to really, Vietnam! The signs were both in Vietnamese and English! I was really amused!!
Too bad the station was under construction so you can't really see the shops... It didn't occur to me to take photos of the shops.. lol.. next time la...

Anyway, we bought untypical Easter stuff... Haha... Very ala Malaysia style lunch we had... :) we were instructed by the head chef, Reuben, to get chicken, potatoes, onions and lime for his curry dish... And then we got ladies fingers, cucumber, cincalok (yes, cincalok... :)), pandan soya milk, and some other stuff I can't seem to remember....

This is the pandan soya milk.... Very subtle pandan flavour... it tasted just like normal soya milk... I like it!! And it's not that expensive too.. $2.50 for 2 litres...

The two chefs at work... The red stuff in the containers are curry spices... One was Malaysian curry powder, and the other hot curry powder if I'm not wrong....

Our ulam... Yummyyy!! Dip in cincalok sause... mouth watering now thinking about it...

The end product of the curry... It was so good!! It didn't feel fatty 'coz Reuben didn't cook it with santan.. which tasted actually really good! So long dy haven't eated spicy curry... and the cincalok was spicy too... And to cool it off, watermelon for desert!! so it was all yummm!!! :D
Not your typical Easter meal, but it was good!!!

After everything I suddenly realised, HEY!! We didn't have Easter eggs, or chocolates!! Haha... oopsss.... But at least it was a healthy YUMMY lunch!!
Thanks Bryan and Reuben!! :)
HAPPY EASTER!!

Went down to Gold Coast during the weekend, the plan was to visit my sick aunt, in the end... But she was too sick for visitors, so I just stayed at my other uncle's house. Say wanna study but I played games, played with the dog, went out on the boat with my cousins, had a dip in the pool, watch ice age 3... But I did study when the guilt came in...

Read all the lecture slides at least twice, did all the homework questions... Even go attempt the practise exam...

First Assessment of the Year!

And it's DONE!!

After all the drama involving, I'm soooo glad it's OVER!! I just hope that we manage to get a reasonable mark...

Fuhhh... I think we did well tho... Seeing that we only did the script 4 hours before presenting, and we manage to write a pretty decent dialogue in like an hour and half. My idea bah to do the counselor-adolescent role play... XD Hopefully we'll get marks for creativity... The tutor seem to like it, hopefully he really does...

You know how sometimes the evaluator says, oh yes, you guys did well, and then you expect you did well, but you got like an average only? I really hope that he genuinely liked it...

But it's over... if it was bad, then it's time to pour more effort into my other assessments, if it was good then it'll be a bonus.. :)

Anyways... 30% test on the coming Monday, and a 1300 word (25%) article review dued on the Wednesday... :(

Saturday, 20 March 2010

Early Stress?

Aiyaaaa... I'm so annoyed thinking about this again... huhhhh~

So bodoh ba... But in a way it was my fault... and there's nothing I can do...

The story goes like this... I enrolled into this course, but then... because I signed on late, there were no more available tutorials that I can attend. So I emailed the course coordinator and ask her whether I can enter another tutorial. The thing was, she kept replying my emails late, but then again, the sign on for this course was kinda last minute also...

Then yesterday she replied me saying, the other option I can offer you is that you do this course next year. Then start la my stress... Coz I already arranged my timetable, and then I already told my manager my availability when I can work... And then I found the Taekwondo club in uni, and I thought I really wanna join...

So anyway... I thought...fine... screw this course, I enter another course and just do this course next sem. Now my timetable is so screwed up... And because I just enrolled into the new course yesterday, I still haven't got the slides for today's lecture... so I wake up for nothing! Aiyaaa... I could have slept for 1 more hour!

Oh wells... We'll see how things go... :(

What I did on 26/06/09...

Seriously??
Nothing much... Didn't wanna celebrate la actually... but having good friends that I have, I had a teeny weeny "celebration"... :)

Kenak paksa minum VB... People dah buy ba... so cannot reject... hehe...

My birthday cake that was baked by Hui Quan and Esther... Thanks girls... It was delicious... :) I think I ate half of it... Not on the night la... haha.. Gila ka...

Cun or not? Hehe... our food buzzer thingy... cun-cun got 26 also...

And then.... kena paksa minum 3 shot... the first one was... the name was sounded vulgar I can't remember what's it called... the second one was absinth... yes, the green fairy punya drink... and the last one was tequila...

Still ok after that.. XD managed to take the ferry and then the bus home....

Sorry not much stories la... No mood mok write panjang2... anyway, pictures tell a million words kan? :P
